Almeida Artistic Director Rupert Goold said today, "It is with enormous excitement that we announce our new season, featuring premieres from immensely talented and ground-breaking writers, a rare UK revival of a seminal, pioneering American play, and an exhilarating interactive show from one of the most revolutionary theatre companies in Europe."
Our new season begins in April with The Writer, a World Premiere by Ella Hickson (Oil) and directed by Blanche McIntyre (RSC’s Titus Andronicus).
In June the season continues with a revival of Sophie Treadwell’s 1920s expressionist masterpiece Machinal, directed by former Gate Theatre Artistic Director Natalie Abrahami.
Then in August we present the UK Premiere of Clare Barron’s multi award-winning play Dance Nation directed by Bijan Sheibani (Barber Shop Chronicles at the National Theatre).
In addition to these three productions, in August we bring Ontroerend Goed’s critically acclaimed immersive production £¥€$ (Lies) to London audiences following a sell-out run at Edinburgh’s Festival Fringe.
Finally, we announce the return of Almeida For Free, a festival of free performances and events for those aged 25 and under, following its success during the run of Hamlet in 2017. From 3-5 April, all performances of Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke will be performed to an audience aged 25 and under with all tickets completely free. Full details will be announced on Monday 19 February with tickets on sale Tuesday 20 February.
