A theatre with a European outlook

BY Almeida Theatre   July 1, 2016

Theatre began in Ancient Greece, flourished in Elizabethan London, and found its modern form in the 19th century in the wake of two geniuses: one Russian, one Norwegian.

Hamlet is the Prince of Denmark; Mother Courage is German; A Doll’s House is set in Norway; Beatrice & Benedick, Romeo & Juliet and Shylock are all from Italy.

The Almeida is proud to be a theatre with a European outlook and believes that art, and the truths of human experiences it excavates, transcends the borders of nationalism.
