Coronavirus Statement

BY Almeida Theatre   March 17, 2020

Last updated Monday 6 April.

Following government advice, and alongside other UK theatres, we have taken the very difficult decision to temporarily close the Almeida Theatre. The length of closure is currently unknown and we will constantly review this in line with the latest government advice.

We are in unprecedented times and the safety and wellbeing of all our staff and visitors is our number one priority. We have been in close dialogue with all our staff, artists and freelance workers to understand what this closure means for them.

Sadly we have taken the decision to postpone all scheduled performances of “Daddy” and The House of Shades until a later date. We have also postponed all other events at the theatre including Almeida Question events and Theatre Tours. All ticket holders for these performances will be contacted by our Box Office.

The Almeida is a charity and is heavily dependent on ticket sale revenue and donations from individuals, companies and trusts to operate. Just 10% of our overall income comes from government funding via Arts Council England. In light of this, a full refund of any lost performances is financially devastating for us, so we are asking all ticket holders to please consider donating the cost of their ticket rather than requesting a credit note or refund.

We will continue to think of ways we can still connect with you all remotely. We are looking at how we can make some of our archived productions and/or unseen digital content available online to our audiences.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we make decisions to protect each other through unchartered territory. If you would like to make a donation or purchase a membership to help the theatre continue, we would be extraordinarily grateful.
