Juliet Stevenson today won the 2019 Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Best Actress for her performance in Robert Icke’s The Doctor. It was awarded to Juliet jointly alongside Sharon D. Clarke for her role in Death of a Salesman.
This is the third year in a row that the Almeida Theatre has won the Critics’ Circle Best Actress prize, following Victoria Hamilton for Albion and Patsy Ferran for Summer and Smoke.
Presenting the award, critic Lyn Gardner stated: “I have been watching this actor with awe for almost 40 years and she just gets more luminous, more rigorous, more revealing with each role she tackles”.
The Doctor is transferring to the Duke of York’s Theatre from 18 April.
