By Michael Nyman and Michael Hastings
Tickets £6 - £29.50
Love Counts details the unlikely liaison between Avril, a university mathematics lecturer, and Patsy, a middle weight fighter at the end of his career, who cannot read or recognise numbers. Learning that the muscles and mumbling mask a gentle character, Avril falls in love. But, will it be enough to keep Patsy away from the ring?
Andrew Slater (seen at the Almeida in Simon Holt's Who Put Ella in the Wych Elm?) plays Patsy, and Helen Williams, who was much praised as Queen of the Night at Opera North, is Avril.
Love Counts reunites Michael Nyman and Michael Hastings with director Lindsay Posner and conductor Paul McGrath, following the success of Man and Boy: Dada at Almeida Opera in 2004.
A blend of erotic understatement and mathematics...interwoven and delivered perfectly
