ALMEIDA QUESTIONS – “DADDY” A MELODRAMA

IF YOU LIKE IT THEN YOU BETTER PUT YOUR NAME ON IT: DOES PATRONAGE IMPLY OWNERSHIP?

This event is postponed

production information

Following government advice, and alongside other UK theatres, we have taken the very difficult decision to temporarily close the Almeida Theatre. The length of closure is currently unknown and we will constantly review this in line with the latest government advice.

Sadly we have taken the decision to postpone all Almeida Question events, and all ticket holders for this event will be contacted shortly.

We are receiving a high volume of phone calls and emails, and we appreciate your patience as we contact all ticket holders by date of performance as quickly as we can in these difficult circumstances.

Line Break

"Is not a patron . . . one who looks with unconcern on a man
struggling for life in water, and when he has reached the ground
encumbers him with help"
- Samuel Johnson

Without the Medici family would we have Michaelangelo’s The Last Judgement? Damien Hirst’s pickled shark without Saatchi? And without James I’s patronage would Shakespeare’s company The King’s Men simply have been ‘The . . . Men?’

Inspired by "Daddy", the Almeida Questions panel explores the layers of trust, obligation and ownership that exist between artists and their patrons and asks—is the role of the patron to be a champion, a mentor, or just the one who signs the cheques?

Almeida Questions is an eclectic programme of pre-show discussions which consider some of the questions raised by the work on our stage.
