"Goold has an unnerving ability to keep his finger on the pulse in terms of topical, debate-worthy issues, a remarkable flair for eye-catching stagings and an ability to turn a night at the theatre into a major event in a way that few of his contemporaries can rival." Daily Telegraph

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Rupert Goold, the focus of the Almeida is to make brave new work that asks big questions: of plays, of theatre and of the world around us. That work can take the form of radical reinventions of classic works, timely revivals, or exciting new plays. Our commitment to nurturing emerging artists, widening our audiences, and to presenting work in new and innovative ways means that our voice resonates well beyond the four walls of our theatre.

Since 2016, more than one million people have seen our work live at the Almeida, in the West End, on Broadway, and on tour. Meanwhile, our cinema and television broadcasts (Richard III, King Charles III and Hamlet) and online projects (Figures of Speech) have increased our world-wide audience by a more than three million.

The critical acclaim received by the productions has demonstrated the breadth, ambition and quality of our work and the extent to which the Almeida is leading the cultural conversation.

Recent production highlights at the Almeida include:

  • The Wild Duck★★★★★ ’Robert Icke strikes gold again’ Time Out
  • The Writer★★★★★ ‘Intellectually agile, vividly written and frequently furious’ The Stage
  • Summer and Smoke★★★★★ ‘Rebecca Frecknall’s shiveringly beautiful production’ The Sunday Times
  • Albion★★★★★ ‘A work of deeply absorbing emotional richness and symphonic density’ The Independent
  • Ink★★★★★ ‘A Super, Soaraway Smash’ The Telegraph
  • Hamlet★★★★★ ‘extraordinarily, heartbreakingly beautiful’ Time Out
  • Mary Stuart★★★★★ ‘Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams are mighty… Electrifying’ The Observer

In 2018 and 2016 we were named The Stage newspaper’s London Theatre of the Year – the only theatre to receive this accolade twice.

A partnership with the Almeida offers many benefits to companies, raising awareness of the brand with our audiences in London, nationally and internationally, whilst positioning your company as dynamic, forward-thinking and committed to the future of British theatre. There are benefits that will engage and inspire staff, clients and stakeholders while upholding CSR values, and exclusive corporate hospitality opportunities for use throughout the year.
