Young Producers 2018-19

Our Young Producers are a group of young people who want to learn about theatre producing.

The programme offers a group of 16–25 year olds the chance to learn about producing and planning creative projects for young people. The group collaborates with the Participation team to create festivals, events and workshops. They meet staff from across the Almeida team and learn what goes into putting on productions and running the building.

As we endeavour to see all applicants who apply we ask that you attach a recent photo of yourself to the application. This is purely so we are able to put a face to a name so please don’t worry about sending a professional photo!

Applications for our Young Artists Programmes have closed. We are currently inundated with sorting out applications, but we aim to respond to applicants by Wednesday 19 September. If you have not been contacted, please give the Participation Team a call.

Interviews will take place at the Almeida with Participation Producer Ross Crosby on the following dates:

Monday 17 September, Tuesday 18 September and Wednesday 19 September.

Second Round interviews may take place.

We will be in touch in mid-September to confirm your workshop slot.

Last year the Young Producers worked alongside the Participation Producer to programme and curate the Almeida for Free Festival. They also produced their own event Mind on the Mic for the festival which explored themes of anxiety and mental wellbeing in young people. 

This years' programme will take place on Tuesday evenings at the Almeida Theatre Admin Offices and run as follows:

Part 1: Event Planning and Management

Ten sessions from September to December 2018 exploring the key components of planning an event culminating in an Answers Back Event in early December and some early introductions to programming.

Sessions will include: 

  • Budgeting
  • Curating
  • Dissecting Work
  • Recruitment
  • Developing your Panel and Chairing Talks

Part 2: Programming and Curating

From January – May 2019 the group will work towards creating an event for under 25’s as well as exploring how theatres and festivals programme work.

Sessions will include:

  • Programming a festival
  • Approaching artists/agents etc.
  • Developing events
  • Festival Operations
  • Audience Development
  • Marketing

Part 3: Producing Theatre

From April – June 2019 the group will take part in several producing masterclasses featuring visiting producers and production companies providing them with a wide view of producing at all levels of theatre including touring, fringe subsidised work and the West End.
