Why is the Almeida Theatre closed?
Following government advice, and alongside other UK theatres, we have temporarily closed the theatre due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Read more here

When will you reopen?
We sadly don’t know how long we will be closed, but we are constantly reviewing this in line with the latest government and sector advice.

What impact has this had on the Almeida?
We are a charity and heavily dependent on ticket sale revenue and donations from individuals, companies and trusts to operate. Just 10% of our overall income comes from government funding via Arts Council England.

This current loss in income has been financially devastating for us and all donations have been a lifeline during this crisis, enabling us to continue to support our artists, maintain our building, and continue our work with young people.

How can I help?
If you are able to support us during this time, any donation, large or small, will make a huge difference. You can donate online here

Or by text:
Text ALMEIDA 5 to 70460 to donate £5
Text ALMEIDA 10 to 70460 to donate £10
Text ALMEIDA 20 to 70460 to donate £20
You will be charged the donation amount plus your standard network charge.

Alternatively, you can buy a membership here from £60 which will give you priority booking when we announce our new programme of work. Gift memberships are also available here, which can include two-top priced tickets for a future show for £145.

Is there anything else I can do?
Please also add your voice to those who are calling on the Government to support the performing arts by writing to your MP, and talking about what theatre and the Almeida means to you.

I have a question about my donation or Membership?
Please send any enquiries about Memberships or donations to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - which is being regularly monitored.

Have you cancelled all forthcoming productions?
Yes. Unfortunately, we had to postpone our productions of “Daddy” and The House of Shades, as well as all other events at the theatre including Almeida Questions and Theatre Tours.

When will “Daddy” and The House of Shades be postponed until?
We don’t know right now, it depends on many factors, most crucially it is impossible for us to know how long this closure will last and therefore plan our future programming. As soon as we know more about reopening our supporters and audiences will be the first to know.

I had a ticket for “Daddy” and/or The House of Shades, what should I do?
Our Box Office team should have already been in contact with you to determine how you would like us to process your tickets. If you don't think you have been contacted, please bear with us until we are able to reopen the Box Office, and contact us then. If your email is urgent you can contact us on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. – but there may be a delay in responding due to our reduced staff team.

Please don’t contact your credit card company to cancel your purchase as that will slow the process down and cause additional complications.

Why is your Box Office closed?
Many staff members from across the Almeida (including all of our Box Office team) have been furloughed using the UK Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which has been an essential lifeline to secure the future of the theatre.

We kept Box Office operations running for as long as possible and until we had contacted all ticket holders impacted by the cancellations of our productions.

I have a credit voucher when / how can I use it?
All our credit vouchers are valid for two years. More information regarding how to redeem your credit voucher will be shared when we announce our next production.

Are you screening any of your productions online?
You will be able to watch our production of Mike Bartlett's Albion  on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer this summer as part of the BBC's Culture in Quarantine season.  Once we have a confirmed broadcast date we will share it on our website, email and social media channels.

You can also enjoy some of our past digital content, including a curated playlist of monologues, our epic retellings of The Iliad and The Odyssey, as well as Figures of Speech with Ian McKellen, Cush Jumbo, Fiona Shaw and many more.

We also have a new series of podcasts – in these Artistic Director Rupert Goold talks to artists, including Matt SmithNoma Dumezweni, and Tobias Menzies, about their careers, the impact of the coronavirus lockdown and what they miss most about theatre.

You can read more about what the Almeida has been doing since lockdown here.

Is the transfer of The Doctor also postponed?
Yes, the West End transfer of The Doctor is postponed until 2021 (dates to be announced).

Any customers affected by the cancellation should contact their original point of sale for a credit voucher or refund. Customers who booked tickets from a link on the Almeida website, or in an email from us, should contact ATG Tickets on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or by calling 0333 009 6690.

More information on ATG's response can be found here.

We don’t hold any booking information for this production of The Doctor.

Are you going to be creating new work during this time or reopen the venue to do any socially distanced productions?
We are exploring all possible ways that we can create and share new work with our audiences, but we need to ensure anything we do is safe for all involved and is financially viable for us as an organisation.

During this time, we have kept our programme of work for young people going - you can read more about this here.

Is the Almeida Theatre building and or Café & Bar open?
No. During this time the building will remain closed to the public, which includes the Café & Bar as well as the Box Office

I have emailed you, when can I expect a response?
We only have a small team working so please bear with us, we will aim to respond to all emails as soon as possible.
