Young Company
The Young Company aims to give young people the opportunity to develop as creative artists supporting the development of the theatre artists of the future.
We run two Young Company groups: 14-18 years and 18-25 years. The groups meet weekly to explore acting, writing and devising techniques, as well as working with outside practitioners to explore bold ways of telling stories in order to create urgent and exciting theatre.

Apply for the Young Company 14-18
Members of the Young Company will perform a brand-new play commissioned by the Almeida Participation department, drawing on themes explored in the Almeida production of Desire Under the Elms by Eugene O’Neill.
Meeting regularly on Thursday evenings between Sep and Dec 2026, the Young Company will explore acting with text, including character analysis, development and intentions, working with professional creatives to explore the theatre making process, culminating in performances on the Almeida stage.
The Almeida Young Company is designed for aspiring theatre-makers, looking to gain experience in acting, working with text, developing new theatre and performing on stage at the Almeida.
Participants should be aged 14 – 18 at the start of the project.
You must live in one of the following boroughs to be eligible to apply for the Young Company: Islington, Camden, Haringey, Hackney or Tower Hamlets.

Successful applicants will be invited to audition in-person at the Almeida on one of the following dates (please keep both free):
- Thu 23 July, Evening.
- Sun 26 July, Daytime.
The Almeida Young Company is completely free to take part in – and we are also able to offer travel expenses for participants if needed.

We can support alternative formats for application and can discuss how best to support you through the process.
Auditions will be in an accessible space. Most of the Young Company rehearsals will take place in the Almeida Rehearsal Rooms in Islington. This Rehearsal Room is step free, with an access toilet on the same level.
Application closing date: Mon 22 June, 10am.
Applicants will hear back on the outcome of their application by Fri 10 July.

Rehearsal & Performance Period:
- Full day onboarding: Thu 27 August.
- Weekly rehearsals: Thursday evenings, 3 Sep – 19 November.
- Tech days: Sun 22 November & Sun 29 November.
- Performance date: Sun 6 December, 2pm and 6pm.
