CHRISTMAS DAY For free Performance
This free performance is exclusively for those aged 25 and under
Mon 5 Jan 7.30pm
There’s something perverted about a Christmas tree.
They’ve got an aura.
It looks perverted and it gives me the creeps.
In an abandoned building somewhere above the Northern Line, with foxes prowling the deserted streets outside, a Jewish family gathers on Christmas Day.
A viciously funny new play about identity, belonging, and the rituals we perform with the people we love.
James Macdonald (Infinite Life; The Children) directs a darkly comic world premiere from Olivier Award-winning playwright Sam Grabiner (Boys on the Verge of Tears).
Please note tickets are limited to two per booker for Almeida For Free: Christmas Day. Any tickets booked over this number will be returned. This policy is in effect to discourage and prevent unfair ticket buying practices. Proof of age must be brought to the performance for each ticketholder.
We have a limited amount of extra tickets available for youth groups who would like to attend. Please contact participate@almeida.co.uk if you would like to request tickets for your group.
Access
This is a relaxed environment performance and it will be captioned. If you require access tickets, please contact the Box Office on 020 7359 4404 or email boxoffice@almeida.co.uk.

playwriting masterclass with sam grabiner
Wed 7 Jan 2.30pm – 4.30pm (approx. 2 hours)
Location: Almeida Theatre Auditorium
Join Olivier award-winning writer Sam Grabiner (Boys on the Verge of Tears) for a playwrighting workshop.
Sam’s first play Boys on the Verge of Tears was produced at the Soho theatre in 2024. He has been writer-in-residence at the National Theatre Studio and Christmas Day is his second play.
In this workshop, we will talk about playwriting – what it is, why we do it, and how we might go about practicing it. You will have the opportunity to do some writing too as we explore what writing for the theatre might look like for you. There will also be time for a Q&A with Sam, so get your questions ready!
